I have isc's dhcpd version 3.0.1 running on a FC2 server. My gentoo laptop cannot seem to get an ip from this server. I get an ip pritty much anywere else, but the weird thing is that if boot the same laptop to (gasp!) windows, I get an ip. Also debian, FC2, FC3, and FC4 boxes all seem to get ips just fine from our dhcpd. This makes me think that there might be some kind of incompatibility with dhcpcd 3.0.1, and dhcpcd version 2.0.0 which is intalled on my gentoo laptop. It seems weird to me. It is not like dhcp is super complicated! I have basically been using my FC4 dev box while at work, and I want to get back to using my Gentoo laptop again.

Need a whole load more info. Check your dhcpd. logs on the server and see if it's offering any addresses to dhcpcd. Also check the logs on the client and see if it's logging anything about why it cannot use the address.

Please attach all relevant logs as dhcpcd-2.0.1 and dhcp-3.0.3-r2 work fine as client and server for me.

Lastly, dhcpcd is not the only dhcp client in portage for Gentoo. We also support dhclient (part of ISC's dhcp), pump and udhcpc (part of udhcp)
