Including the patch you named in an already deployed ebuild would cause a change in the ebuild version number (== from samba-3.0.14a-r3 to samba-3.0.14a-r4), which has to be marked as unstable due to Gentoo release policy (www.gentoo.org -> docs -> developer manuals). The same policy states that a "reasonable" amount of time have to pass before the stabilization: usually, this means 30-60 days. Since samba-3.0.21b has been tested in bugzilla since the beginning of January (although released the 2nd of February), I think we could go for the stabilization at the beginning of March. This way, OSX would have compatible servers and clients in about 2 weeks. BTW: 3.0.20* weren't marked as stable because they had some (little, but nasty) stability bugs. I don't think I've been good at thanking you for pointing out a bug I (and others) didn't know. So, although this bug resolved in a 'wontfix', this was for the presence of better alternatives. :-) https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2973 ok. closing this. |
