Description ta2002 2006-02-13 13:40:42 UTC
If I understand this (and I certainly might not), getty waits
for a user to try to log in, and then calls login to do the
work. I get the \char substitutions for getty, but then, if
the login fails (bad user or password), then login does not
substitute for these sequences. Showing it probably will
describe it better (the user "foo" does not exist). I see:

This is machine.localdomain.loc (Linux x86_64 2.6.15-gentoo-r1) 12:00:00

machine login: foo
Password:
Login incorrect

This is \n.\O (\s \m \r) \t

machine login:
Login timed out after 60 seconds.

This is machine.localdomain.loc (Linux x86_64 2.6.15-gentoo-r1) 12:01:30

machine login:

This happens on my other machines (x86), as well.

I have a rather standard installation with nothing unusual,
except that I do NOT use pam.
