Uhm, you need to remove references to non-existent extensions from /etc/php/*/php.ini and also delete all java.ini files in /etc/php/*/{ext,ext-active}.
*** Bug 121169 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I deleted the java.ini files from /etc/php recursively. Now I get another error (just this): configure: creating ./config.status config.status: creating config.h /usr/lib/php4/bin/php -q /var/tmp/portage/php-gtk-1.0.2/work/php_gtk-1.0.2/generator/generator.php -o ext/gtk%2b/gtk.overrides -p Gtk -r /var/tmp/portage/php-gtk-1.0.2/work/php_gtk-1.0.2/ext/gtk%2b/gdk.defs ext/gtk%2b/gtk.defs > ext/gtk+/gen_gtk.c make: *** [ext/gtk+/gen_gtk.c] Error 255 !!! ERROR: dev-php4/php-gtk-1.0.2 failed. ...
