Description Ed Davison 2006-01-26 11:01:29 UTC
While trying to upgrade my ximian-connector package, I received a configure error stating that the Evolution development libraries are missing. Yet, emerge showed no other needed packages as dependencies.

emerge -a ximian-connector

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] mail-client/ximian-connector-2.2.3 [2.0.2]

checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking Evolution version... configure: error: Evolution development libraries not installed

you should be using evolution-exchange instead of ximian-connector if you are using the latest stable gnome 2.12.
Comment 3 Ed Davison 2006-01-26 15:57:55 UTC
I will try out evolution-exchange as soon as I get a change. I did an emerge gnome a short time ago and it did not upgrade ximian-connector to evolution-exchange. Is that a bug?
Comment 4 John N. Laliberte (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-18 19:28:08 UTC
How did switching to evo-exchange go?
Comment 5 Ed Davison 2006-02-20 10:42:09 UTC
Yes, upgrading to evolution-exchange worked but I had to remove ximian-connector first in order to fix the symlinks for the setup program. Also, seems like it is very confusing, as a user, to have to continue to type ximian-connector-setup when the package is now called evolution-exchange; exchange-connector-setup would be more intuitive as a name for the executable.

Also, getting evolution to actually "let go" of the ximian-connector configured accounts was VERY troublesome. Evolution kept crashing and upon restart, the account was still there and had not been removed. Etc. I had to try and try, over and over, and eventually it removed the old Exchange account. The reason for this was that the new evolution-exchange setup program only allows ONE Exchange account where the ximian-connector setup program allowed many. So, I had to delete the old ximian-connector created ones BEFORE I could configure any news ones with evolution-exchange (and no, the old definition did not work for me in place without the upgrade; they immediately broke and would not work at all).

Still seems like a bug to have gnome-2.12 upgrade NOT want to pull in the new evolution-exchange package.
Comment 6 Ed Davison 2006-09-14 09:53:25 UTC
Obsolete now with newer gnome versions.
