Problem found but not solved. I have few computers with gentoo installed. Two of them are connected to NIS, both does not want to restart. Restart is ok when I change nsswitch.conf from

passwd: nis files
....
to

passwd: files nis
....

Since I have users account information on other server I cannot login but restarting is now ok.

I'm having a simular issuse, the switch stops the startup hang on portage and gives a floorless startup. But it still wont shutdown, it gets further now, but hangs at "saving random seed". I've read about a a problem with net.lo exiting too early, but i'm not sure how to change this to test it.
Comment 6 petr bravenec 2006-08-30 09:07:05 UTC
Try to change your /etc/init.d/net.lo, about line 842, function stop(). Add exit as a first command in the function, let the device is not stoped.

It hasn't made any difference, nore has uninstallning ypbind, allthough i know the problem acurres after installing it, has happened on several machines.

baselayout-2 no longer removes the 127.0.0.1 address from the lo interface which should solve this.
