Description Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2006-01-13 13:41:36 UTC
I am using an IBM Thinkpad T41. The control center in KDE 3.4.3 complains about invalid permissions of /dev/nvram (control center -> system ... -> IBM Thinkpad ...)

This can be solved by adding a line like :
[[ -c /dev/nvram ]] && chmod o+rw /dev/nvram
to the file /etc/conf.d/local.start. I am wondering whether the permissions are set correctly by udev or the modul nvram or not.

udev version? emerge --info? kernel version? actual permissions you get w/ udev?

udev:
sys-fs/udev-070-r1

before:
tfoerste@n22 ~ $ ls -l /dev/nvram
crw-rw----  1 root root 10, 144 Jan 13 23:10 /dev/nvram

tfoerste@n22 ~ $ emerge --info

Reopen.

You can create a special udev rule to change the group ownership of this if you want, but for
the default, no, I can't change it as it would not be secure that way.
