Oops I screwed up the ebuild already. Forgot the $(use_enable bmpx bmpx) line; also cleaned it up a bit.
now worries about screwing up an ebuild. I'm sure I do it all the time. No idea on whether bmpx is okay on sparc. committed masked version awaiting bug #117873 1.3.5 unmasked. Still sparc problems in conky with bmpx as per bug 117873. Please take note Brenden.
