When I switched over to the split ebuilds and removed "unnecessary" components from kde, rebuilt all the apps I use (including kile), kile stopped working because kdvi wasn't installed.

I think you should add the "kdvi" package as a dependency for kile; I don't think anyone would want to use kile without it, since you can't view the output...

It did have this dependency. Unless someone moaned he doesn't need the additional apps. Do 

echo "app-editors/kile   kde" >> /etc/portage/package.use

and you're fine.
