Description Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-23 04:03:15 UTC
sun-jre-bin-1.5* has been in the tree for about half a year now. The latest versions was added
*sun-jre-bin-1.5.0.06 (07 Dec 2005)

I propose that we mark this version stable 7.1.2006 because the browserplugin is mutch better than in 1.4 (blackdown or sun-jre) and in general 1.5 behaves better. Because the jre has quite a lot to test if you want to do thorough testing, I filed this bug now already. Also others can provide feedback here if they test this version.

Please note that this is sun-jre-bin which contains the runtime parts only. To compile anything you need sun-jdk so sun-jre-bin is mainly used as a browser plugin provider but of course it does need to run applications emerged too. To answer your question java apps are not 1.5 ready because many packages still fail to emerge with sun-jdk-1.5* (axxo-overlay in java experimental makes it possible to use sun-jdk as the system jdk), but I am not aware of any problems with running stuff emerged using earlier jdks with 1.5. The point of this bug is to find these issues, which is why I opened this bug so early.

I've been using it for a few months, with programs like Azureus. Works fine here (x86)

Marked stable on x86. Closing bug.
