During update to the new gcc, apache got recompiled along with the rest of the
system.  However, while its config files were treated properly, giving me chance
to keep my modifications, the web page main file index.html was simply
overwritten without asking, leading to the main web site disappearing.  

This is equivalent to a database installation deleting the existing database
data, or a text editor installation deleting the existing text files.
