Bug 114353

Summary: emerge -u doesn't do what it should
Product: Portage Development Reporter: Charles Christie <cchris0396>
Component: Enhancement/Feature RequestsAssignee: Portage team <dev-portage>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: normal CC: jkt
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Whiteboard:
Package list:
Runtime testing required: ---

Description Charles Christie 2005-12-03 06:48:05 UTC
Emerge -u should NOT upgrade to the latest STABLE package. What it SHOULD do is
check version numbers. If the version number is lower, skip it. If it is higher,
upgrade it. That way, people who have emerged unstable packages (like
ndiswrapper-1.5, which is required for my system to work properly, and mozilla
firefox 1.5 because I like all the new features) won't have their features
downgraded (or in ndiswrapper's case, have it fail)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
update the system, not blindly replace packages with the stable tree
