Description Adrian Bocaniciu 2005-12-01 01:20:26 UTC
This bug is almost certainly the same as #112944, but I could not find any way
to add comments to an existing bug. Kernel gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r10 works OK,
but the kernels gentoo-sources-2.6.13-r5, gentoo-sources-2.6.14-r2 and
gentoo-sources-2.6.14-r3 do not work.
I did not have time yet to test with other USB devices than flash memories and
hard disk drives, but the USB is not the only problem, because e.g. vcdxrip
(Video CD ripper) does not work in 2.6.14-r3 (with the ATA DVD writer), although
it works OK in 2.6.12-r10.
Hardware: Asus A8N SLI Premium motherboard with nVidia nForce 4 chipset and 4
Gbytes memory, the other details may be seen in "emerge info", which was run
after rebooting with the old kernel that works.
At this moment I do not have a x64 system with less than 4 Gbytes memory, so I
do not know if that is required for reproducing the bug. Anyway, what should
help to identify the cause is that 2.6.12-r10 does not have the bug but all
kernels from 2.6.13-r5 to the last do have the bug.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Insert an USB flash memory or an USB hard disk drive
2.
3.

Actual Results:
In 2.6.13 nothing happens and the memory cannot be mounted. In 2.6.14, the
computer has frozen and only a hardware reset could restart it.

Expected Results:
In 2.6.12 all works OK, i.e. the flash memory is recognized and can be mounted.
