Actually you shouldn't need spadmin at all, all your used cups printers should show up automatically now. Do you have these configured there? Also: Is this openoffice or openoffice-bin, and which desktop environment are you using. Your "emerge info" would be helpful too Yes, the two printers I have setup do show up. However, my Send_to_Fax entry in Cups which is linked to kdeprintfax is not showing up. I know I can setup fax_printer in OpenOffice-2.0 but when I try: .spadmin -add new printer at this point I have only two choices and one of them is "connect to fax device" where I can enter command I wish to run; so I tired: "kdeprintfax" "kdeprintfax %in" but it doesn't work. Nothing is shoing up in kdeprintfax window. And even if I was able to print directly to hylafax via openoffice, it doesn't give me any choice of storing and retrieving fax numbers (a fax-book etc); where is kdeprintfax has a fax-book capability. That is why I want to print via kdeprintfax or have a capability to open "kdeprint" windows so I can select my fax entry setup. #Joseph Below is my "emerge info": Portage 2.0.51.22-r3 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.10 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2500+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.20 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/fax /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control /var/spool/fax/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://gentoo.binarycompass.org" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X acl alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo bzip2 cdr cgi crypt cups curl dvd eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam ffmpeg flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gimp gimpprint glut gmp gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit kde lcms libg++ libwww mad mhash mikmod mng motif mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png postgres ppds python qt quicktime readline samba scanner sdl slang spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev usb vorbis xine xml xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY So is this with openoffice or openoffice-bin? (In reply to comment #2) > Yes, the two printers I have setup do show up. > However, my Send_to_Fax entry in Cups which is linked to kdeprintfax is not > showing up. That is bad, it should, could you take a look at the OOo Issuezilla and see if there is something matching your problem: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/buglist.cgi?Submit+query=Submit+query&issue_status=UNCONFIRMED&issue_status=NEW&issue_status=STARTED&issue_status=REOPENED&issue_status=RESOLVED&issue_status=VERIFIED&issue_status=CLOSED&email1=&emailtype1=exact&emailassigned_to1=1&email2=&emailtype2=exact&emailreporter2=1&issueidtype=include&issue_id=&changedin=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&short_desc=fax&short_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&long_desc_type=substring&issue_file_loc=&issue_file_loc_type=substring&status_whiteboard=&status_whiteboard_type=substring&keywords=&keywords_type=anytokens&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time If not, file a bug there about kdeprintfax entries in cups not showing up in the printer list, this really is an upstream bug. > I know I can setup fax_printer in OpenOffice-2.0 but when I try: > .spadmin Like I said before, this is wrong. spadmin is NOT used / functional when you use CUPS, as the printers get autodetected instead.
