Bug 11389 – Can't install due to missing write-rights

Hi all 
 
Just wanted to install Gentoo 1.4_rc1 from the 1.4_rc1 install-cd. 
I wanted to install it on a hard-disc which consists of 2 60 gb harddrives 
which are striped through my promise ide-raid-controller. now this is no 
problem at all, i booted from the cd, inserted the ataraid module and 
afterwards the pdcraid-module. now this is the point, the syslog sais that 
this module wants to write to /lib/devdir (uhh.. what was the name?) or 
something, which isn't possible, becaure /lib is mounted from the cd, 
read-only (of course). so the module couldn't be inserted and i couldn't 
install... i fixed this by booting from my old Gentoo 1.2 install-cd, which 
works fine (it doesn't want to write /lib/devsomething), and everything worked 
fine. 
 
although i won't need it anymore, it cost me about 4 hours to get this damn 
raid working, if this could be fixed other people won't need to spend so much 
time on it ;-)

I need more information than "/lib/devdir (uh...)" Do you have specifics?

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
