Which version of xorg-x11 is installed? Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (the log from the freeze, which gets moved to .old after restarting X) and xorg.conf, then reopen. I found the problem. It was the Nvidia graphics driver, version 1.0.7676. Downgrading to the latest version which is marked as stable (1.0.6629) did the trick. The nv driver works fine as well. This suggests some kind of incompatibility between GNOME 2.12 (or GTK+ 2.8) and the latest Nvidia driver. I had been using that driver for quite some time with no ill effects, and the problem only started after upgrading from GNOME 2.10 to 2.12. Since GQview is a GTK+ app (not a GNOME app), I think it is more likely to be an incompatibility with GTK+ 2.8 (GTK+ 2.6 worked fine). Discussion at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=2856096 I'll reopen the bug, but if you want me to open a new one just let me know. Created attachment 72431 [details]
Xorg log
I am using x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r4 for my windowing system. Here is a log of
a session in which I load GQview and X.org freezes.

xorg.conf
My xorg.conf file.
please, tell us if turning off RenderAccel option in xorg.conf solves something. I have lockups everytime I launch firefox or thunderbird with nvidia-glx-1.0.7676-r2 and RenderAccel set to true. Is this bug still valid after a full system update? This bug is not present with newer versions of the Nvidia driver. You might wish to close this ticket. |
