Bug 109762

Summary: media-sound/amarok crashes (and tries to run kmail)
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: Sumit Khanna <notify>
Component: Current packagesAssignee: Gentoo Sound Team <sound>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: major CC: kde
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Whiteboard:
Package list:
Runtime testing required: ---

Description Sumit Khanna 2005-10-18 18:02:22 UTC
amarok will crash every once in a while when switching songs with the error
"Can't start kmail" It then cleanly exits. Why the heck would amarok want to
start kmail? Why would this crash amarok? Does kmail need to be added as a
dependcy? I really won't want to emerge all that KDE stuff just to use amarok
(using Gnome right now)

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Amarok
2. Press play
3. Waith 10 min or so

Actual Results:
amarok exits with failure to execute kmail

Expected Results:
amarok should not crash

Which version of amaroK are you using? Which backend? Which version of the backend?

The crashes are on their own, amaroK tries to launch KMail after crash to submit a backtrace to the
authors, that can be ignored, as it's an effect of the crash, not a cause.
Comment 2 Sumit Khanna 2005-10-19 05:21:50 UTC
amarok-1.3.3

It was using xine engine with an autodetect for the output plugin. I'm going to
try gstreamer and see if it has the same issue
Comment 3 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-02 04:12:02 UTC
Is still an issue with amaroK 1.3.6?
Comment 4 Stephan Verbücheln 2005-12-08 14:18:20 UTC
i think, the problem is caused by Berkley DB (sys-libs/db), but i am not sure.
Comment 5 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-18 13:15:10 UTC
db isn't linked in either amaroK nor xine, so it can't be.
Considering a dupe of the other bug and please try with 1.3.7.
