As can be seen in the url provided above and in
http://lists.shmoo.com/pipermail/hostap/2005-September/011231.html
wpa_supplicant fails to start. I managed to duplicate this and got it solved
when i installed dev-libs/opensc.
In any case this depends on opensc getting fixed.
