1.0.x had an init sctipt that registered .NET IL binaries with the kernel. Was
this removed intentionally?

See this duplicate bug for the latest init script that still works for me.

As I wrote on that other bug: Maybe the *existing* script could simply be re-added? I mean, there's a working solution for a bug that has been open for more than one year (!) now - why not use it?
