I'm also seeing that gam_server / gamin crashes all the time. Oct 18 20:08:07 blatt gam_server: *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x08066670 *** Oct 18 20:08:44 blatt gam_server: *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (out): 0x08060520 *** In a terminal I started dvdrip and get a lot of these messages: end from FAM server connection invalid length 10794 invalid length 10794 invalid length 10794 invalid length 10794 did some quick investigating and will get back later, see this redhat bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=168744 Creating a .gaminrc with content fsset nfs kernel as suggested by the RedHat bug report makes the repetitive log-messages dissappear and gam_server does not change the PID that often any more. I should add, that my $HOME is imported from a NFS server. Yet, directory content view for example in Nautilus is not updated until i explicitely request refresh (using menu or Ctrl-R). Just as a data point, a user on IRC had this problem, and fixed it by re-emerging gamin, gnome-vfs, and nautilus. I've added gamin-0.1.6-r1 to fix this issue, masked for now. Could someone with the problem try that and verify that it fixes it? 1.6-r1 seems to work for me! Tried several, mount/umount touch/rm actions, that surely would have crashed 1.6 without problem. Thanks! In theory this should have been assigned to me. Anyhow, please add the patch to the redhat bug report so that it can be fixed upstream ... This new version works for me as well. Tested with amarok, gnome-volume-manager and nautilus (which usually all killed it or at least spat out errors) Seems to work for me too (with gnome-2.10.2 and nautilus-2.10.1-r1): Portage 2.0.51.22-r3 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.13.4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13.4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.1-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ " LANG="en_US.utf8" LC_ALL="en_US.utf8" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowext X aalib alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzlib cdr crypt cups curl dbus dvd dvdr emboss encode esd firefox foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 guile hal imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx mmxext motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nsplugin nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl plotutils png python readline ruby sdl slang speex spell sqlite sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb vorbis win32codecs xine xml xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS Another happy patch user. Before the patch we had crashes hundreds of time a minute! re comment #8: It came from upstream, and has already been applied to CVS. I've unmasked the fixed gamin. approved |
