Are you using lesstif or openmotif? openmotif is installed (as a dependency of something else), but lesstif is not. I do have the USE flags set to +motif -lesstif I tried emerging cmucl with USE='motif -lesstif' on a new ~x86 install. It did succeed for me. Could you show me the output of the following please: motif-config -l motif-config -c Also check if the following is true for you: ls -l /usr/X11R6/include/Xm lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Nov 28 20:52 /usr/X11R6/include/Xm -> /usr/include/openmotif-2.2/Xm That symlink should match the output from motif-config -c minus the trailing /Xm. ie. /usr/include/openmotif-2.2/ in this case.
