Please test and then re-enable support for gnome-applets:

        DEPEND.bad: ~mips (default-linux/mips/2004.2) >=sys-apps/hal-0.5.3
                sys-apps/hal-0.5.4 (missing keyword)
        DEPEND.bad: ~mips (default-linux/mips/2004.2) >=sys-apps/dbus-0.34
                sys-apps/dbus-0.36.2 (missing keyword)

mips doesn't have gnome any more...
