It would be really helpful to get the last few lines of /tmp/compile_output.log after you get this error. Here are the last several lines from the compile_output.log: ==================================== >>> /mnt/gentoo/usr/include/asm/soc!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.11-r2' not specified: !!! Error extracting /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/packages/All/glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1.tbz2 That looks like a failing disk, bad memory, overheating, etc. The actual error was that the .tar.bz2 file was corrupt. That file is generated on the fly using quickpkg. This doesn't appear to be an installer bug. Have you validated the MD5 on the CD to make sure it didn't get corrupted? Double-checked the MD5 and the image is valid. Crud. That means RAM or HDD. Apologies, I know this isn't the appropriate forum for this, but is there a way I can still install Gentoo on this machine? Follow the install instructions in the handbook like everyone else :) If it fails that way as well (likely will), you'll have issues installing any distro. |
