The three xinetd files should go in the files directory, obviously. :)

My revisions to the proposed amanda ebuild
I used Christopher Dahn's ebuild to install amanda on my system. I found that
it installed cleanly, but I needed to make some revisions to allow it to do
what I needed (I'm setting up an amanda client using dump).
I can submit a patch if it's more useful, however I also included a new file in
${FILESDIR}, so I figured this was the cleanest way to submit my suggestions.
It'd sure be nice to have an official amanda ebuild in gentoo!
This is in response to Christopher Farley's post about dump. About a year ago, it went across the Amanda users list that dump is very touch and go on Linux. Apparently Linus has it in for dump, claiming that nobody should expect it to work with kernels >= 2.4.x. I know that I had unending difficulties with random partitions timing out while trying to use dump on them, none of which was reproduceable. The problems came and went. The general consensus on the Amanda users list is that if you're using Linux, you should be using tar. Bouncing back to bug-wranglers due to time constraints. Created attachment 7600 [details, diff]

this ebuild needs some work before we can add it to portage. first and formorst the work you do in /etc/ should be done in the install process, that way you don't have to rm -rf all that stuff in postrm (becuase sandbox will grab all that stuff). also, the useradding fails if you're upgrading the package or installing it again, and if you upgrade the package it will remove the user so that you've got invalid user/group stuffs chillin on your system...i worked for about an hour trying to get this set up right, but just don't have the time to fix it and make it nice.... seth wrangler Commited to CVS. In CVS. Closing bug properly. |
