When emerging gedit-2.10.5, configure fails with:  
  
configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool  
  
I have dev-perl/XML-Parser-2.34 installed.

Assuming you did not ran the perl-cleaner script after updating perl as the
ebuild told you. Otherwise reopen please.
