on emerge -u world I get:

checking for xDBM support... no
checking whether to enable DBA... no
configure: error: DBA: Could not find necessary header file(s).

log says:

configure:23887: checking whether to enable DBA

Maybe whatever provides DBA isn't listed as a depend, or it shouldn't look for
header files when it's already decided 'enable..no'.

I get the same error with dev-php/php-4.4.0-r1
