Description Bastian Preindl 2005-09-21 16:06:49 UTC
Trying the LiveCD 2005.1 on a Compaq ProLiant DL-380 results in a hang up when
starting gpm from init during Bootup. The kernel loads perfectly, just the gpm
hangs. It says: "Starting gpm ... " (or loading gpm, don't remember exactly)
and stops here. No movement any more, but I can still press F2 to switch the
views. I tried to plug off mouse and/or keyboard after pressing ENTER for
gentoo kernel boot but it doesn't help. It's a ProLiant DL-380 Server with a
Single Xeon 3.06GHz and 1GB of RAM. Also a SCSI-SmartArray Controller 5i with
72GB Hotplug Discs is installed.

Important: Using an older Gentoo-LiveCD like one of 2004 works perfectly ! No
hangs during the boot.

And one bet: Provide netcat and dd on the minimal Live-CD to have easy network
cloning possibilities ! It would be worth it ...

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Having a ProLiant DL-380 G3 Xeon 3,06Ghz
2. Putting in Live-CD 2005.1
3. Boot up using the normal "gentoo" Kernel

Actual Results:
A Hangup at "Starting/Loading gpm ..." during boot

Expected Results:
Continueing the boot sequence

Sorry, can't, no Gentoo install possible :(

Use "nogpm" at boot. It's documented.

No. If you want a complete environment, use the LiveCD under /experimental
instead. We won't be adding *anything* not required for a Handbook installation
to the minimal CD.
