Description tercero12 2002-11-12 08:39:17 UTC
I have experienced this with multiple gentoo-sources kernels (I have not tried
vanilla-sources for this), but I truly think the problem is in dhcpcd. Here is
what happens:

(usbnet is modprobed on boot, hotplug in configured to setup the usb0 interface
when it appears)
I plug in my iPAQ (running Familiar 0.6.1-rc1, kernel is 2.4.18-rmk1-hh22)
do some network operations
Remove my iPAQ from the cradle. A few seconds from removal, the kernel panics
and all is locked.

I say that the problem is dhcpcd for two reasons:
- dhcpcd is running as root so it has the access needed to do something illegal
- When I install and use pump, I have no such problem

From a distro perspective, it would be easiest to fix this by making the
bootscripts compatible with pump or another dhcp client.
