Description Romang 2005-09-16 01:45:07 UTC
Hello,

I'm sysadmin in a DATACENTER and have actually 70 boxes running under gentoo, a
really good distro.

But I have 10 boxes running under this raid controler :

IDE Raid Promise PDC20271 (FastTrak TX2000)

This Raid controler is only supported in 2.4 series, not supported in 2.6

Actually what I see :

emerge search sys-libs/glibc

sys-libs/glibc
      Latest version available: 2.3.5-r1
      Latest version installed: 2.3.4.20040808-r1
      Size of downloaded files: 15,628 kB

root@mailing1 etc # emerge -pv sys-libs/glibc

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies -
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.5" have been
masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.11-r2 (masked by: profile)
- sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.8.1-r4 (masked by: profile)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
section 2.2 "Software Availability" in the Gentoo Handbook.
!!! (dependency required by "sys-libs/glibc-2.3.5-r1" [ebuild])

So what I see is that 2.4 kernel series are no more supported by Gentoo !!!

I come back in time :

http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20050725-newsletter.xml

I read -> Keeping gentoo-sources-2.4

So the conclusion is ->

No more upgrade avaible for this boxes, no more security upgrade avaible for
this boxes, no more installation possible for this boxes !

This is realy blocking me.

Regards

This happens if you have nptl in your useflags. I guess that this flag should be
masked for the 2.4 profiles, but you can simply remove it yourself.

Obviously bogus bug...
