Description Clock 2005-09-05 01:56:30 UTC
clock@kestrel:~$ dnsdomainname
dnsdomainname: No address associated with name

Setting DNS domainname to twibright.com [OK]
The system writes at startup: "This is kestrel.unknown_domain".

kestrel ~ # rc-update show default | grep domainname
          domainname | default
kestrel ~ # rc-update show boot | grep domainname
          domainname |

kestrel ~ # cat /etc/issue
[...]
This is \n.\O (\s \m \r) \t

man agetty: "O Insert the DNS domainname of the machine.\t"

kestrel ~ # cat /etc/domainname
cat: /etc/domainname: No such file or directory
kestrel ~ # cat /etc/dnsdomainname
cat: /etc/dnsdomainname: No such file or directory
kestrel ~ # cat /etc/conf.d/domainname
# /etc/conf.d/domainname

# When setting up resolv.conf, what should take precedence?
# If you wish to always override DHCP/whatever, set this to 1.
OVERRIDE=1

# To have a proper FQDN, you need to setup /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf
# properly (domain entry in /etc/resolv.conf, and FQDN in /etc/hosts).
#
DNSDOMAIN="twibright.com"

# This only set what /bin/hostname returns. If you need to setup NIS, meaning
# what /bin/domainname returns, please see:
#
# http://www.linux-nis.org/nis-howto/HOWTO/
#
#NISDOMAIN="twibright.com"

Reproducible: Always

kestrel ~ # cat /etc/hosts
# /etc/hosts: This file describes a number of hostname-to-address
# mappings for the TCP/IP subsystem. It is mostly
# used at boot time, when no name servers are running.
# On small systems, this file can be used instead of a
# "named" name server. Just add the names, addresses
# and any aliases to this file...

Your FQDN is undefined for IPv4 in /etc/hosts.
