The DNS resolution is very slow in Firefox, Konqueror, Thunderbird, Opera,...
all X clients.
This is not a DNS server problem, because all console applications work well:
dig, ping, lynx, emerge,... are pretty fast at resolving DNS.

I'm running Gentoo on amd64, but there are many other users who have this
problem. I don't know which arch they're using.

I have an internet access through a router/modem.

The nameserver in resolv.conf is the router, but this shouldn't be a problem
since it works great in Windows and in console apps.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open an url with firefox.
2. 
3.

Actual Results:  
Wait 15 seconds while "looking up www.gentoo.org".

Expected Results:  
Be fast as hell!!!

I doesn't seem to be an amd64-specific problem.

Well, I cannot see "many other users" having this problem, there is just one
user having the problem in the thread you are refering to. Given the information
provided, we cannot really help you.

I also have this problem. I could resolve it for Firefox by following the advice in thread (1) and disabling ipv6 for firefox.
