Gérald Fenoy has volunteered to help the sci herd with package maintainance and bug-fixing. A look at Bugzilla shows that Gérald has already helped Gentoo quite a bit with geosciences applications. (He is also a French translator for the GDP.) I think he would be an asset for the Gentoo team, and I am ready to mentor him. Gérald lives in Balaruc-les-bains, France, and can be reached by email at djayweb@djayux.net. His favored nickname is "djay". gimme dem quizzes G Gérald and me are still working on his ebuild quiz. Feel free to mark as LATER if it bothers you. I will reopen in due time. Recruiters should now have received everything necessary for G Recruiters should now have received everything necessary for Gérald's evaluation (ebuild quiz, GPG key id, SSH key). CC'ing George Shapovalov (lead of the scientific herd) for his approval. still need an end of mentoring quiz it seems that I still don't have a end of mentoring quiz(or I can't find it in my email) I'm going to close this for now. If you've allready taken the EoM quiz, please resend it to recruiters[at]gentoo.org and put your bug # in the subject line and reopen this bug. If you havn't completed the quiz, then please do so, obtain approval from your mentor, then send it to recruiters and reopen this bug. forgot to add the link to the EoM quiz: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/quiz/end-quiz.txt Recruiters should now have received everything necessary for G Recruiters should now have received everything necessary for Gérald's evaluation. Could a recruiter please tell us what the status of this bug is? Gerald- Come find me on IRC(preferably on a weekend) and we'll finish this up. all done - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: LASTBUGZILLA - Last CVS activity: 2007-10-17 13:31 I've sent the first mail today. I just spoke to Gérald (he actually found me) on irc. He has some family issues at the moment, but does not want to retire. I definitely approve of his stance given the situation. Therefore, as he promises to get back when it gets better, I will close this bug. He also spoke with nerdboy already, but if anybody else from recruitment wants to speak to him just ping him on irc. George PS Is this a policy to rename the original recruitment bugs to retirement? I was actually confused (on what this all is about and, in particular, what exactly "was done"), until I realized that the same bug was reused. At the very least, please leave the original bug title as a part of a new one, for the reference.. Thanks! Thanks for your quick replies guys. There's no need to be worried about this one. I talked to djay on irc. I understand his situation and am not going to continue this retirement. Something I usually do after I find out about developer's present situation and cause of his inactivity. About bugs. It is easier to find out about person's status if all their recruitment and retirement information is in one bug instead of being in a couple of them. When devrel or recruiters need this bug back, they just grab it from retirement and put on their alias, renaming if they need that. This single bug has all the info about developer's status in Gentoo. It is easy to find (it has his full name and nickname as summary). All parties interested are already on CC (like you are here) so they get informed and can react in due time (like you did). From my point of view, it just works better this way. (In reply to comment #17) > About bugs. It is easier to find out about person's status if all their > recruitment and retirement information is in one bug instead of being in a > couple of them. Sorry, I suspect I sounded a bit harsh on that last comment, I did not mean that, I was just in a bit of a rush over here. It really was mean as a suggestion: reading the retirement title and then all contents unrelated kinda threw me off track. It is just that, would it not be better to have some kind of history in the title (like, "retire ... Was: recruitment ...") or even simply call it a "developer status" bug? Sorry again and thanks for all the recruitment work! Gerald promises to increase his activity in gentoo over next couple of weeks. - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 230802: 2008-11-10 11:00:37 - Last CVS activity: 3.95 months ago at 02:26 on Sep 11, 2008 First retirement mail sent today. Gerald's new year's resolution is to contribute more to Gentoo. I think we should give him that chance. Bug closed for now. - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 230802: 2008-11-10 11:00:37 - Last CVS activity: 02:26 on Sep 11, 2008 First mail sent today. Gerald will increase his activity in the project after March 18th which is his wedding. Retirement closed. Reopening as Gérald has been inactive for over 2 months. - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 211536: 2009-08-21 09:04:05 - Last CVS activity: 2010-04-14 07:20 First mail sent today. - Last (viewable) bugzilla activity: 211536: 2009-08-21 09:04:05 - Last CVS activity: 2010-04-14 07:20 Second mail sent today. I'm closing this bug as Gérald mailed us a few days ago and promised to resume his work. Gérald, we're happy to see you back and await your resumed contributions. Despite your previous promise, you haven't resumed your work, so I'm reopening this bug. Hi, I sent two email to you and didn't get any answer. Can you please consier reading it then answering ? Hope to hear from you soon, regards Another month passed by without any change. Seeing that you haven't had the time to do a single commit in the last year, I'm forced to conclude that you really have no use for your commit privileges in the Portage tree. Let's proceed with the retirement then. Gérald, thank you for all your past hard work and if you ever find the time to get back, just reopen this bug. - metadata.xml files cleaned - herds.xml cleaned - Bugs reassigned Dear colleagues, even if I was not active for some time as a Gentoo developer I still use it massively. I would like to know the way I can use to re-activate my CVS access. Note that my SSH account is still alive as other accesses. The only missing one is the CVS one. I hope you can let me know the way. Waiting for your answer. Best regards. Great :D Thanks a lot Pacho. (In reply to comment #32) > I would like to know the way I can use to re-activate my CVS access. Note that > my SSH account is still alive as other accesses. The only missing one is the > CVS one. So you haven't committed for over a year but now you want CVS access? What has changed since then? Actually, infra hasn't processed your retirement so you still have CVS access. What's the error message? (In reply to comment #34) > Thanks a lot Pacho. Gérald, I've been very busy and thus haven't been around to help the retirement team and didn't talk with Pacho about your bug. Given your past history and has Jeremy already asked, what should we expect from you? You have in the past promised multiple times to resume your work and have never done that. How is this time going to be different? Dear Jeremy ad Jorge, I'm willing to help in porting / maintaining GIS applications / libraries. As I was asked to, I also would like to take care of somes specific sci-geosciences packages. Hope this helps. Best. (In reply to comment #35) > Actually, infra hasn't processed your retirement so you still have CVS access. > What's the error message? No specific issue to access CVS finally, you're righ. Thanks a lot. Can I be voiced again on #gentoo-dev in any way ? Maybe I just needt o uit the chan and join again ? Best. You said you wanted to come back but your devaway is still from 2010 djay Busy at conference presenting ZOO-Project in Tokyo, Asaka, Beijing. Back on first december. @ 2010/11/01 05:33Z Could you please fix that?
