Imho there should be a link to a troubleshooting document in the handbook.

I guess there are few users which never had problems with emerging packages or
running software (I do not complain ahout that). 
But I think it was very handy if the user was informed right from the start -
that's usually the handbook / installation guide - where to look when problems
occur. 
As well this might help to get faster to the problem itself when making bug
reports or just running software...
