Description Matthew Bevan 2005-08-24 10:30:16 UTC
Symptom: The web server's front page reverts to the Apache welcome page.

Cause: Updating Apache.

Solution: Delete the index.html.* files from your webroot.

Fix: The Apache ebuild should be updated to check for the prior existance of a
webroot (/var/www/localhost/htdocs) or should simply not install the default
webroot when updating vs. installing. Another solution would be to have a
"defaultroot" or "example" use flag control this behaviour.

Notes: This has caught me twice, resulting in 12+ hours of front-page downtime
and some confusion. Hopefully I'll remember to check in future! ;)
