OK, the new PHP ebuilds are in portage and will be removed from package.mask in
two days (Thursday, Sept. 8). This needs an urgent fix so that we don't break
the dependency tree for ~arch users.

Any news on this? midas-nms-2.2f still depends directly on dev-php/mod_php, I'm going to change that dependency myself to virtual/httpd-php in 5 days if no one beats me to it (maintainer/herd/whatever).
