Description ajacoutot 2002-11-05 11:46:45 UTC
Hi,

I wanted to post an ebuild request for poppassd:

POP Password Changer was adapted from poppassd, which talks to /bin/passwd
over a pseudo-tty. This version uses PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules)
directly, so all of the pseudo-tty code has been removed. It was originally
written to solve the problem of changing passwords in one repository, while
keeping the same account locked in another.

I'm usgin Gentoo more and more in server environnement, and this ebuild would
be great...

Thanks in advance.

net-mail/poppassd_pam has been added to portage. Please test and let me know if it works properly for you!

I am using poppassd_pam in conjunction with shadow and have found that poppassd
doesn't work.

If I connect to it via telnet, provide a valid user name, a bogus password
and a new password, poppassd reports that my password was changed. But it
was not. I would expect some kind of error associated with the bad password.

If I give it my real password, it behaves exactly the same: claims to have
changed my password, but does not.

I mentioned the fact that shadow was installed because I'm wondering if this
could account for the problem. Just a guess.

Thanks -- Steve

I have also been testing poppassd on my server, using telnet. The server is not changing any passwords, although it is reporting that it has. You can enter bogus user credentials and it still carries on - there is certainly something very wrong with the ebuild/server program as it is currently.

I also have shadow installed.
