If the directory /var/spool/mail is NFS mounted and was NOT exported with the
no_root_squash option, mailbase emerge fails. 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. make /var/spool/mail an nfs mounted directory 
2. emerge mailbase
3.
