Description Patrizio Bassi 2005-08-14 05:59:45 UTC
pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r1.ebuild available, but

[blocks B ] <net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r2 (is blocking net-ftp/ftpbase-0.00)

as written in ebuild

lots of time with this block...
Comment 1 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-14 06:02:16 UTC
Unmerge the old version first. BTW, searching for 'ALL ftpbase' returns 7 other
duplicate bugs, so you could have solved your problem much faster if you did
actually search. ;p

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 79606 ***

no no wait...

i can't find the -r2 ebuild!

pwd
/usr/portage/net-ftp/pure-ftpd
root@blight pure-ftpd # ls
ChangeLog files/ Manifest metadata.xml pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r1.ebuild
root@blight pure-ftpd #

pure ftp, not the others vsftpd..
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-14 06:48:14 UTC
Do you have any other ftp server installed? Or did you have one and you switched
to pure-ftpd now?
Comment 4 Patrizio Bassi 2005-08-14 06:55:40 UTC
i have pure, vsftp and proftp

i had pure installed lots time ago, and i'm using it for my personal intranet
Comment 5 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-14 07:06:55 UTC
No good workaround for you then besides downgrading the other ftp daemons to
versions that do not depend on ftpbase and uninstalling ftpbase then. Hmm, this
is not good. Sorry about the problem. :/

@humpback: We urgently need a ftpbase-compliant version of pureftpd, seeing the
/etc/pam.d/pure-ftpd entry I can't see any reason why this should not work.

@uberlord: Sticking a non-existent version of an ebuild into a DEPEND blocker is
a bad idea. If pure-ftpd is not ftpbase-compliant at all, then the block should
be versionless.

Anyway, this problem prevents people from having multiple ftp daemons installed
concurrently (which is the setup that quite a few people, including me, are
using). :-(
Comment 6 Patrizio Bassi 2005-08-14 07:12:26 UTC
yes, infact i searched for some mins, it seemed me so strange noone opened a bug or
fixed the problem during all this time period.

i'll be out for the weekend, i'll test any fix on monday night.
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-27 17:26:12 UTC
Any news here? We really need some solution...
Comment 8 Gustavo Felisberto (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-28 09:20:06 UTC
I've been a bit busy with pymsn-t and jaber related files. I'll try to pick this
up today.
Comment 9 Gustavo Felisberto (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-31 06:02:59 UTC
No more block :) New version in portage that fixes pure-ftp to use
/etc/pam.d/ftp. Sorry for the delay.
Comment 10 Daniel Black (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-03 21:35:44 UTC
consider net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r1 installed
env ACCEPT_KEYWORDS emerge -pv =net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r2
would require ftpbase that cannot install cause of the
<net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r2 block.

really the only solution is to fix the problem is for existing users to remove
net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r1 and then remerge net-ftp/pure-ftpd-1.0.20-r2

blocks should be in RDEPEND too imho.
Comment 11 Patrizio Bassi 2005-09-04 00:36:48 UTC
ihmo the problem is not in THIS ebuild, but in portage.

if i remember that's a bug open for this portage stupidness.

fix portage :)
Comment 12 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-04 02:53:01 UTC
The stupid blocking is a portage issue (Bug 79606).
Comment 13 Patrizio Bassi 2005-09-04 03:33:55 UTC
so i remembered good.

infact this bug was marked as duplicated of that one
