I disagree. This ebuild is NOT obsolete. It is true that the package is no longer available for download, however once you have the vm client up and running, selecing VM >> Install VMware Tools and then mounting /dev/hdc gets your the vmware-tools tarball. Simply move the file to the distfiles folder and run the ebuild. So I suggest rather than getting rid of this ebuild, it should be modified so that if the file does not exist in /usr/portage/distfiles folder, the user should be provided with instructions on how to get the tarball. By the way this ebuild does not work (5.0 version). That issue is covered in a different bug (88307). closing due to lack of activity closing because it's mine and nothing's been going on with it forever. We close bugs on this end. Anyway, the "maintainer" for this package hasn't worked on any of his bugs regarding this package for over a year. Because of this, the Gentoo VMware team have now reclaimed the package. Expect to see some actual motion on the bugs related to it. I have a lot of knowledge and experience w/VMW.Let me know if I can help from a QA/UA perspective, or with future ebuilds. We removed this ebuild completely in favor of the 5.5.x ebuilds, since it is a free upgrade for anyone on the 5.x series. |
