Most probably it's a known problem, but you haven't provided enough info. Try
running perl-cleaner. If that solves your problem, please mark as a duplicate of
bug 41124.

Sorry, missed this bit of error message:

checking for XML::Parser... configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is
required for intltool

If I understand correctly, this means that XML::Parser ought to be an ebuild
dependency for intltool-0.33, and isn't.

It is, just check the ebuild. You failed to run perl-cleaner.

Correction:  I am still running perl-cleaner.  These things take a while.

okay, perl-cleaner did it.  Thanks for the help!  I wish you could be a bit more
patient though.  I always feel, comming to gentoo to report bugs, that it is my
fault something went wrong.  Ease up, please!
