This will, guaranteed, *never* be added to a stage1. The stage1 is the absolute minimum required to bootstrap, and nothing more. I have no intentions on breaking that tradition with a USE flag editor that has such hefty requirements. The best that would probably ever be considered would be having it added to a stage3, but that would be rejected by the developer community at large for the same reasons that dhcp and slocate are no longer a part of system... not everyone needs it. Perhaps if there is an editor out there that doesn't have hefty requirements, and is very small and capable, then we would consider adding it to the CD media itself, but there will never be one in any of the stages. |
This is not actually a bug, it's more of an annoyance. From my experience of setting up various machines for some very different purposes and hardware, I have encountered that copying the /etc/make.conf of a generic machine is quite useless. Often I, and presumably others, will have to go through all of the /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc - And that is a tedious affair. What I am requesting is a use flag editor of some sort in at least stage1. Ufed would do just fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot up on the livecd, prepare the box 2. Unpack stage 1 and chroot 3. Edit /etc/make.conf and ufed Actual Results: The command ufed is not found: -bash: ufed: command not found Expected Results: The ufed front screen should appear, allowing me to choose my useflag really quick and easy. Ehm, I don't have emerge from a stage 1 right now, but I am sure, that you know the setup :-) ATM, ufed (x86) is dependent on the following packages: dev-lang/perl >=dev-util/dialog-1.0.20050206 dev-perl/TermReadKey sys-apps/grep IMHO, it should not be hard to include these (if they're not already in stage 1, I know that TermReadKey isn't)
