This bug seems not to be Gentoo specific and was also reported here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96541 I suggest you ask to reopen that bug. Created attachment 71825 [details, diff]

from upstream; works perfectly via my edited ebuild for kicker-applets-3.4.3
