i've got very unclear sound with these 2 versions of gst-plugins (i'm not sure if that's problem with gst-plugins or gst-plugins-alsa). i've noticed that in amarok and then i've tried: gst-launch-0.8 filesrc location=file.mp3 ! mad ! alsasink with the same effect. i've checked in gstreamer's bugzilla, but i havn't found anything similar to my problem. i'm not sure what can couse that problem. here's my emerge info: Portage 2.0.51.22-r1 (default-linux/x86/2004.2/gcc34/2.6, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.12-VBE_3.0-MPPE_1.3-PINK i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-VBE_3.0-MPPE_1.3-PINK i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5, 2.4.1-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.10 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -mfpmath=sse -pipe -ffast-math -DNDEBUG -DG_DISABLE_ASSERT -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -mfpmath=sse -pipe -ffast-math -DNDEBUG -DG_DISABLE_ASSERT -fno-rtti" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms spinner strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.zie.pg.gda.pl/ http://gentoo.prz.rzeszow.pl #http://src.gentoo.pl/distfiles http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentooftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/ #http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.inode.at/ ftp://ftp.rhnet.is/pub/gentoo/ http://www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/" LANG="en_US" LINGUAS="pl" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/portage/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.pl/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowext X aalib alsa amarok apache2 arts avi bash-completion bitmap-fonts cdr cpudetection crypt cups divx4linux dvd dvdr emboss encode extraicons extramodules fam fbcon fla flac font-server fortran gd gif glut gpgme gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib imlib2 java javascript jikes jpegjpeg2k kdeenablefinal lcms ldap libwww lm_sensors mad mailwrapper mbox memlimit mikmod mmx mmxext motif mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nocardbus nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline real samba sasl scanner sdl serial slang sqlite sse ssl tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales v4l v4l2 videos vim-with-x vorbis win32codecs wmf xv xvid zlib linguas_pl userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS (note i've also tried to compile it with empty C*FLAGS). gst-plugins(-alsa)-0.8.8 works just fine
I can confirm this. the sound begins to stutter with rhythmbox aswell. downgrading gst-plugins-alsa to 0.8.8 helps. so also thread in forum: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-347016.html
increasing severity, since packages become stable
Gstreamer folks?
I have the same problem here with gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.11
I solved this problem by removing /etc/asound.conf and restarting alsa. now the sound plays without any problems with gst-plugins-alsa-0.8.11
i've tried that before commiting this bug report. removing asound.conf doesn't work for me. PS: i've got audigy LS card (driver: snd_ca0106)
If you have issues w/ 0.10.x, feel free to reopen. 0.8.x is basically dead.
