Comment 2 Brant Gurganus 2005-05-04 23:13:25 UTC
Both 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 have this issue. 3.0.0 installed fine.
Comment 3 Chris Slycord 2005-05-06 12:38:13 UTC
It can be installed if "-sandbox" is temporarily added to your FEATURES in make.conf. Apparently the Makefile that is created automatically needs to be fixed on the fly to correct for using a sandbox.
Comment 4 Sarpy Sam 2005-05-09 13:12:40 UTC
I am having the same problem. I tried to use -sandbox as in comment #3 and it did not fix the problem.

Comment 5 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-10 02:32:06 UTC
Sarpy:

Now you are using FEATURES="sandbox"=FEATURES="+sandbox". So sandbox restriction if ON. Try add FEATURES="-sandbox". Note '-' before sandbox word. And this helps.

And don't forgive to remove '-' after compilation of foomatic-db-engine as this is only workaround.
Comment 6 Jonathan Smith (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-10 15:40:31 UTC
same problem with 3.0.2. i am unwilling to disable sandboxing, as it provides security...

FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge --oneshot =net-print/foomatic-db-engine-3.0.2

That works for me. I can then continue with my emerge of foomatic using
sandboxing for all the other packages. Obviously, this needs to be fixed with
some clever trickery in the ebuild.
Comment 11 Chris Slycord 2005-05-24 23:47:17 UTC
You guys seem to not understand.

You only need to temporarily disable sandboxing. You disable sandboxing just
for that ebuild and as soon as it is installed re-enable sandboxing again.
Comment 12 Bert Geens (theBlackDragon) 2005-05-25 01:16:15 UTC
You should not nood to dislable sandboxing for any ebuild, not even temporarily,
having to do so is a bug, and a pretty serious one at that.

sorry, cannot reproduce it here
Comment 16 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2005-06-02 22:36:20 UTC
This bug seems to only affect >portage-2.0.51.19 so to reproduce this bug you so
you need to install the ~ARCH version of portage. Sandbox has been split into a
separate package and behaves differently.

Great, and now the only foomatic-db-engine left in portage is 3.0.2. 3.0.0, the
only one that worked fine, has been removed.
Comment 21 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2005-06-07 13:10:54 UTC
This bug should be assigned to sandbox@gentoo.org because SANBOX_WRITE
permission is explicitly given to /dev/fd/ in sandbox.c but since /dev/fd/3
happens to be a symlink into /proc it results in an access violation.
Comment 22 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-07 13:29:40 UTC
Ok, it's an sandbox bug. portage-2.0.51.19 does work fine, but on
portage-2.0.51.22-r1 with the external sandbox-1.2.8 package it fails
Comment 23 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-07 13:49:59 UTC
last working sandbox version is 1.2.3
Comment 24 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-09 09:53:50 UTC
Fixed in svn repo, should be in sandbox-1.2.9.
Comment 25 UncleOwen 2005-06-09 13:55:19 UTC
Confirmed, works with 1.2.9
Comment 26 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-09 14:55:46 UTC
Thanks.

After updating to baselayout-2 this issue happened with
sys-apps/sandbox-1.3.3 during

emerge -e world

when it came to emerge net-print/foomatic-db-engine-3.0.20060720

Comment 29 Lars 2009-02-17 21:01:35 UTC
By the way, I could workaround using:
FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge -av1 net-print/foomatic-db-engine
Comment 30 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2009-02-17 21:05:16 UTC
dont use old versions of sandbox
Comment 31 Lars 2009-02-17 21:56:00 UTC

> dont use old versions of sandbox

Well, if sandbox-1.3.3 is considered old, why is it masked?
The latest version not masked is sys-apps/sandbox-1.2.18.1-r2.
Which version should I unmask?
1.3.7
1.3.6
1.3.5
1.3.4
