Is it ready yet?
I've been using it daily for a long while and no issues for me at least.

Oh indeed, we will keep a GTK+2 version around for a while. As I took package over I switched to 4.x version too, and it works fine enough - switching from 3.x was painless too. Anyway if we keep an older stable around for those that need it, it is good to stable, let's do it

The useflags "libcanberra" and "libnotify" depend on GTK2, which is out of live. The useflag "notification" also mentions a not existing useflag "libindicate". In fact, that useflag is called "appindicator", however.

The "appindicator" useflag pulls dev-libs/libindicate and dev-libs/libdbusmenu and is only needed for the claws-mail-indicator plugin. This flag should be optional.
Nice catch, in fact libindicate was removed from code a while ago, replaced by unity (which we do not have in tree). I will fix it in 4.1.1 bump
