Description Duncan Coutts (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-15 05:39:29 UTC
After my machine has been on for a while I look at ps -A and see that there are loads of hotplug processes running (or rather sleeping). I'm sure this is not normal behaviour.

Here's a sample of ps -A output

(ignore X and gdm, they're obviously ok)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot machine
2. use it for a day or so
3.

Using:
sys-kernel/development-sources-2.6.10-r1
sys-apps/hotplug-20040923
sys-apps/hal-0.4.5-r2
sys-apps/dbus-0.23-r3

not using coldplug
Actual Results:
Lots of hotplug and related processes running

Expected Results:
I thought that htplug just ran things when events happeded and that the prcesses
it runs are not long lived.

Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide.

What version of udev do you have?
Comment 2 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-23 23:44:25 UTC
Need udev info
Comment 3 Duncan Coutts (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-24 05:50:44 UTC
I am using udev 045

I'm using the default config files with no modifications.

I recently did an amd64 gentoo install too and do not get the same problem.

info for the amd64 install:
sys-fs/udev-045,
sys-apps/hotplug-20040923
sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4,
sys-apps/dbus-0.23-r3
sys-apps/hal-0.4.1-r1
(so that's a different kernel version and a different hal version and a different arch obviously)
Comment 4 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-16 12:01:06 UTC
Fixed in later releases.
