im-ja compiles and installs fine, and shows up in gtk-query-immodules-2.0: "/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/immodules/im-ja.so" "im-ja" "Japanese" "im-ja" "/usr/share/locale" "ja" However, Japanese doesn't show up in the Input Methods list! Moreover, I have im-ja set as my default Input Method (GTK_IM_MODULE="im-ja"). The XIM server works, but is a real pain. It will randomly stop working for a single application. Switching input methods to Default then back to XIM fixes this. However, as Firefox and Thunderbird don't allow you to set the Input Method, I have to restart them (using LC_ALL="ja_JP.UTF-8"). I have this problem on both x86_64 and x86, using both the version 1.3_r1 in portage and the 1.3 version from CVS. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install im-ja (via either portage or CVS) 2. Attempt to switch Input Method to Japanese Actual Results: Japanese was not listed in the Input Methods menu Expected Results: Japanese being listed in the Input Methods menu Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Portage 2.0.51.19 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r0, 2.6.9-gentoo-r14 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r14 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4-r1 [2.3.4 (#1, Feb 24 2005, 12:10:01)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.9.4 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/bind /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.ccccom.com ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/pub/linux/gentoo ftp://ftp.ndlug.nd.edu/pub/gentoo/ http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://open-systems.ufl.edu/mirrors/gentoo" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aalib acpi aim alsa audiofile avi bitmap-fonts bonobo canna cdr cjk crypt cups curl curlwrappers dio divx4linux dvd dvdr dvdread encode esd fam flac font-server fortran ftp gif gimpprint gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml hal icq imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jp2 jpeg libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad mime mng mozilla mp3 mpeg msn ncurses nls nocd nvidia offensive oggvorbis openal opengl oscar oss pam pcre pdflib perl php png python qt quicktime readline real rtc samba sdl ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales videos wmf xine xml xml2 xmms xosd xpm xrandr xv xvid xvmc yahoo zlib linguas_en" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
i doubt firefox & thunderbird can be considered full gtk+ apps.
True. But im-ja worked in them before, as it did with full GTK+ programs. I'll try emerging older versions of im-ja to see if they might work, but I think I'll prolly get the missing im-ja.so problem if I do. However, my roommate is on an x86 box... he's sleeping now, but I'll check later and see if 1.3 works for him (he hasn't updated in a while).
Yeah, if you need Gecko based browsers, try kazehakase. You can change input methods with that browser. (You cannot do so with mozilla and firefox)
Does the problem still persist with im-ja-1.4? I cannot reproduce the problem (it works without any problem).
please reopen if you still have problem.
