Description Luke Graham 2002-09-17 23:56:47 UTC
kdenetwork cvs build has no newdepend line, so depends on qt-3.0.5 instead of
qt-5
Comment 1 Dan Armak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-20 06:43:08 UTC
No cvs ebuild depends on qt-5, they all depend on 3.0.5 and work fine with it.
When switching between qt-3.0.5 and qt-5 you have to recompile most cvs kde
packages (but not the stable 3.0.x ones), but other than that both qt versions
work OK. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you?
Comment 2 Luke Graham 2002-09-22 20:20:47 UTC
Sorry, perhaps I was a bit terse :) I just meant that I have emerged qt-5, but when I try to emerge a couple of the kde cvs builds, like network and addons, they try to emerge qt-3.0.5, and to me it looks like its because they dont have a newdepend line.
Comment 3 Dan Armak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-25 04:53:46 UTC
They're not supposed to have a newdend line, at least not one that includes a
dep on qt, the eclasses (kde-functions.eclass -> need-qt() ) handles that.

This behaviour is obviously incorrect. (What I mean is that is doen't usually
occur :-) Try deleting your ebuild cache (rm -rf /var/cache/edp/dep/*) and make
sure you have the latest version of protage installed, then try again. If that
doesn't help, attach your eclass-debug.log (from
/var/tmp/portage/whatever/temp).

Status update? Did you try my suggestions? How're things going? By now you
should switch to qt 3.1.0 :-)
Comment 5 Luke Graham 2002-11-24 18:51:42 UTC
Its working now, I dont remember how I fixed it. Im wondering if I wasnt trying emerge -p as myself instead of root, which would mean I couldnt read the overlay directory. Im still using qt-5 though :) Are you just cleaning out the cupboard of old bugs? ;) Actually, are you interested in hosting my X11 cvs ebuild with your kde ones? Nobody else seems very interested in it, but Im using it right now and its fine. I'll do the support for it.
Comment 6 Dan Armak (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-01 08:06:34 UTC
Well - I'm barely maintaining the cvs ebuilds right now, just fixing urgent progblems,
until some time after kde 3.1 is out the door. Also I don't really want to have ebuilds I
don't (and can't) maintain in there - kde stuff is enough for me (I most likely wouldn't
even use a cvs xfree myself).
I understand you're looking for more users & testers for your ebuild, and I suggest
you contact the people handling xfree in Gentoo (Azarah for instance). They are
already maintaining ebuilds for the 4.2.99.* xfree prerelease series, and might acept
a cvs ebuild too. (There are now several cvs ebuilds in portage itself, such as wine
and gaim, mainly done by phoenix).
