Was going to emerge kde on a shining new athlon 64 and alsa-jack failed to compile Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge alsa-jack (or something like it) 2. 3. Actual Results: Compilation failed Expected Results: Should have compiled without error if /bin/sh ../../../libtool --mode=compile x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../../include -I../../../include -I../../../src/pcm -O2 -march=k8 -ftracer -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe -MT pcm_jack.lo -MD -MP -MF ".deps/pcm_jack.Tpo" \ -c -o pcm_jack.lo `test -f 'pcm_jack.c' || echo './'`pcm_jack.c; \ then mv -f ".deps/pcm_jack.Tpo" ".deps/pcm_jack.Plo"; \ else rm -f ".deps/pcm_jack.Tpo"; exit 1; \ fi mkdir .libs x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../../include -I../../../include -I../../../src/pcm -O2 -march=k8 -ftracer -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe -MT pcm_jack.lo -MD-MP -MF .deps/pcm_jack.Tpo -c pcm_jack.c -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/pcm_jack.o pcm_jack.c:36:23: jack/jack.h: No such file or directory pcm_jack.c:68: error: parse error before "jack_port_t" pcm_jack.c:68: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union pcm_jack.c:69: warning: data definition has no type or storage class pcm_jack.c:70: error: parse error before '}' token pcm_jack.c:70: warning: data definition has no type or storage class pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_close': pcm_jack.c:76: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:76: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once pcm_jack.c:76: error: for each function it appears in.) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_status': pcm_jack.c:158: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_state': pcm_jack.c:173: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: At top level: pcm_jack.c:198: error: parse error before "nframes" pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_process_cb': pcm_jack.c:200: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:200: error: `pcm' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:212: error: `nframes' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_prepare': pcm_jack.c:280: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:290: error: `jack_port_t' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:290: error: parse error before ')' token pcm_jack.c:298: error: `JACK_DEFAULT_AUDIO_TYPE' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:298: error: `JackPortIsOutput' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:302: error: `JackPortIsInput' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:307: error: `JackProcessCallback' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c:307: error: parse error before "snd_pcm_jack_process_cb" pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_start': pcm_jack.c:323: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_drop': pcm_jack.c:391: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_drain': pcm_jack.c:420: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_pause': pcm_jack.c:430: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_hw_refine': pcm_jack.c:509: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) pcm_jack.c: In function `snd_pcm_jack_open': pcm_jack.c:697: error: `jack' undeclared (first use in this function) make: *** [pcm_jack.lo] Error 1 !!! Judging from the errors I'd expect jack not being installed. I verified the package dependency for alsa-jack and this look ok. What version of jack do you have installed? (emerge -s media-sound/jack-audio-connection-kit) Does re-emerge of jack-audio-connection-kit help?
Actually I didn't explicitly emerge alsa-jack or jack-audio-connection-kit. I used 'emerge -uDpv kde' and it was being emerged as a dependency.
maybe reassign to core?
