Description Steve Uzzell 2005-01-22 15:47:14 UTC
a Dell Inspiron 3200 with an atapi Toshiba cd drive using ver 2004:2 says atemping to mount cd. checks two cd types and fails. enter local cd and it can't see my drive. It id'ed the drive in an earlier part that scrolled past. It does it no matter which kernal I use.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot cd
2.press enter, F1 or F2
3.use any option and come to problem

Actual Results:
dead in the water. stopped can't go any further.

Expected Results:
boot and start loading

I have a blank drive and am ready to do a full install. Computer can't have a
floppy and cd at same time.

Try again with a 2004.3-r1 CD or wait until the first week of February. We don't really support older installation media once a newer one has come out simply because most bugs are fixed between versions. You might also try booting with ide=nodma and see if it resolves the problem for you.
